If you're trying to decide which hearing aid to use and you've never worn one before, then you may be finding it hard to settle on a suitable design. You may have been told which kinds of aids will work best for your hearing problem, but you still can't choose a model.

If a micro BTE hearing aid is on your list of possibilities, then this may be a good place to start. What are the benefits of these hearing aids?

1. Less Visibility

Wearing hearing aids for the first time can be a daunting prospect. While you're probably happy to get a solution for your hearing problem, you don't necessarily want everyone to know that you're wearing aids.

While early behind-the-ear hearing aids may have looked a little clunky and obvious, modern designs are much more streamlined. Typically, the external parts of these hearing aids are small enough to mostly stay hidden behind the ear.

Also, if you opt for a micro model rather than a regular one, then you reduce the size of the part of the aids that sit behind the ear even more. Your hearing aids may not be that noticeable at all.

2. More Comfort

Adapting to wearing hearing aids can take time. This isn't something you — or your ears — will be used to doing. Some people find that adapting to BTE models is easier than wearing other kinds of aids.

For example, you may find that BTE hearing aids are easier to wear than other options. You'll soon get used to the parts of the aids that sit behind your ears, especially if you choose a micro model that is smaller and lighter than the norm.

Also, you may not have to deal with feeling like your ear canal is too blocked the way that you might if you wear an in-the-canal (ITC) aid. Even though BTE aids put receivers in the canal, these receivers may not feel as obtrusive and blocking.

3. Easier Control

Hearing aids come with various settings. For example, you can change the way an aid works in a noisy or quiet environment to help you hear most effectively. If your controls are on the outside of BTE hearing aid, then you may find it quicker and easier to switch between settings.
